Fresh blooms straight from our fields for your special event!

We offer our seasonal, sustainably-grown flowers for do-it-yourself-ers typically starting in June through October. DIY flowers are great for special events, including weddings, showers, graduations and parties.  If you have the skills and the savvy to create your own floral designs, buying DIY Flowers from Sweet Soil Farm is a great way to add special touches to your event.

THINGS TO THINK ABOUT

Do you feel at ease working with flowers?

Most flowers are fairly easy to work with, but some varieties require special handling.

Do you have the time?

The week of your event (especially weddings) can be extremely hectic, and it is easy to miscalculate the amount of time you’ll need for everything. This includes picking up the flowers, designing them and getting things set up at your event. We recommend setting aside at least 3-4 hours the day before your event (6-8 hours for weddings) to create your designs.

Do you have a cool place to store flowers?

We recommend keeping everything hydrated and in a cool, dark place.

Do you have a work space?

You’ll need a space that is cool (a MUST!) and has access to water. And just as important is making sure you have an area with lots of counter space that can get dirty and wet. Although they are beautiful, flowers can get messy!

FAQs

When should I contact you about ordering DIY Flower for my event?
We suggest you reserve your date as early as possible as we are only able to offer a limited number of DIY Flowers orders per date.

When are DIY Flowers available?
We’re able to provide DIY Flowers May through October. However, please keep in mind, mother nature may have other plans.

How many stems come in a bucket?
The number of stems will vary with each bucket and depends on what's in bloom at the time of your event. Each bucket has a minimum of 60 stems. 

How many arrangements can be made with each bucket?
It depends on what vessel you’ll be using as well as the look you’re going for.  As an example, you could design 5-7 quart size mason jar arrangements from one bucket of flowers, depending on how large you want them to be.   

Can I choose the flower varieties in my order? 
If you have decided to design your own flower arrangements, you need to be flexible with your colors and style.  We cannot guarantee any specific flower types or colors.  However, if you have requested a particular color palette, we always do our best to accommodate that request. 

When should I pick up my flowers?
We suggest picking up your flowers 2-3 days prior to your event. For Saturday weddings, most people elect to pick up their flowers on the Thursday before. However, with enough notice, we're happy to accommodate your schedule.

Should I bring my own buckets?
No, we will have everything harvested and prepared in water when you pick up. You may keep your buckets or return them to us after your event for a $5 refund per bucket.

How do I care for the flowers after I’ve picked them up?
We recommend that they stay in air conditioning.  Keep the flowers in a cool, dark room or basement, and try to keep away from fruits, vegetables and pets.

How long will the flowers last?
If cared for property, most flowers will last for 4-7 days, but it does depend on variety. 

Is there a minimum for my order?
No, there is no minimum, you may order just one bucket for your special event.

Can I add additional flowers to my order?
We are able to add straight bunches (bunches of one type of flower) can be added to your order if you would like to have more of a particular flower/ color in addition to DIY buckets. Bunch prices depend on the type of flower.  We will need 2 weeks’ notice, prior to your pick up date, and we can let you know what we may have available. 

PRICING

DIY Flowers from Sweet Soil Farm are harvested fresh from our fields and ready for you just a few days prior to your event. Each bucket contains a mix of flowers, filler and foliage that are seasonal, meaning they are at their growing during their favorite time of year.  Flower types and colors are limited to what is available the week of your event, although we do offer an option for those who wish to request certain colors or palettes. 

  • DIY Flowers in any colors (grower's choice):  $100/bucket ($5 discount for each returned bucket)

  • DIY Flowers in specific color palette:  $130/bucket ($5 discount for each returned bucket)

  • Additional bunches (can be added on 1-2 weeks before your event date): $10-16/bunch
